An online coach is not an app replacing a person. A coach assesses your situation, builds the programme, reviews what happened and adjusts the next step remotely. The difference from in-person coaching is mainly where and when communication occurs.
Online, in person or hybrid
No format is inherently better — what matters is whether it fits your experience, schedule and technique needs.
What a well-run week looks like
Ongoing coaching means a plan, feedback and adjustments — not a one-off PDF.
A weekly plan, not a one-off file
Online coaching works through rhythm: what you do, how you log it and when the coach reviews progress.
Each week shows concrete sessions in the app — making it easier to stay consistent and spot gaps early.
A generic file with no scheduled review is a plan sale, not ongoing coaching. That may still be a valid product — but it should be described and priced honestly.

How to compare prices
Online services are often sold monthly, so do not compare the headline fee with one live session. One offer may contain a plan only; another may add weekly changes, video review and calls.
Use our pricing guide to put two offers on equal terms.
When online coaching is not enough
Choose in-person or hybrid support first if technique or motivation requires live contact.
Questions to ask before buying
On Sportstep, find a coach on the website and follow plans and progress in the app. Browse coach profiles, then assess the person — not just the delivery format — using our coach selection guide.
